A Year of Blogs: My Favourites from 2014
This is it, folks. This is the last day of 2014. I cannot believe it’s here but I’m excited to see what 2015 has in store for you, me, and the gardening world. For now, though, let’s focus on the big finale.
Whether you’re new to the blog or have been following for years, you will benefit from a recap of my favourite topics covered here this year. So let’s slow down and enjoy the very end of 2014. Tomorrow is just around the corner.
Trees
If you follow my column in the Toronto Star, or any other newspaper across Canada, you will know that I am a tree lover. It is no surprise, then, that I have written my fair share of tree-related blogs this year.
small trees for your space,
conifers for your space,
deciduous trees for your space, and
all about seeds and leaves
As you may know, I have a number of fruit trees on my property. I know that many of you also care for fruit trees so I have tried to give you a few tips:
Winter prep
grafting
budding, and
topworking
The Veggie Garden
So many of us are starting our own gardens and while it may be intuitive to some, it does not come so easily to others. I’ve spent a few blogs in 2014 providing you with some veggie gardening tips:
Po-tay-toes, po-tah-toes,
toe-may-toes, toe-mah-toes,
early season edibles,
squash, and some rather unusual squash
bolting, and
dill
The Most Interesting Stories
Sometimes I come across a story that I just have to share with you. Here are my favourites from the last year:
The FAAB Restoration in Poland
Gotham Greens
Doomsday Vault
Arctic Greenhouses
My Inner Birder
2014 was the year my inner birder truly came to life. I’ve become involved with Bird Studies Canada and my interest and knowledge where birds are concerned has skyrocketed. This interest has come through in my blogs:
I am Becoming a Birder
Feed the Birds
Clark and His Fowl Friends
I like to think this has been a well-rounded year. I have certainly learned a great deal and I hope you have, too.
Do you have ideas for next year’s blogs? Are there any gardening questions that you just need to have answered? Let me know in the Facebook comments!
Finally, Happy New Year!
